Young Jo AACAP Award

Young Jo, MD received the NIDA-AACAP Resident Training Award in Substance Use Disorders (SUD) supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the Annual American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Meeting in Toronto.

The award is a partnership between AACAP and the NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CNT) to fund NIDA Mentor-Facilitated Training Awards, a key component of the NIDA CTN Dissemination Initiative, supporting the development of expertise in SUD, especially opioid use disorder (OUD), through the completion of a mentor-supervised project focused on adoption and/or dissemination of SUD treatment research and the publication of the results.


AACAP-Silverman-Award

Andrew Silverman, MD received the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s (AACAP) Education Outreach Award at the Annual AACAP Meeting in Toronto.

Supported by AACAP’s Campaign for America’s Kids (CFAK), Life Members Fund, and John E. Schowalter Endowment Fund, the Education Outreach Program (EOP) provides the opportunity for child and adolescent psychiatry residents to receive a formal overview to the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, establish child and adolescent psychiatrists as mentors and experience the AACAP/CACAP 2022 Annual Meeting. Participants will be exposed to the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, including research opportunities, access to mentors, and various networking opportunities. Participation in this program provides a reimbursable post-meeting award stipend of up to $1,000.

Coaching for Leadership Development (C4LD)

Kim Knudson, DO and Jordanne King, MD have been accepted into the inaugural class of the Coaching for Leadership Development (C4LD) program.

C4LD is a one-year, longitudinal program designated for a small group of fellows or senior residents, to teach leadership skills including communication, team dynamics and conflict management.

The program teaches content, but more importantly, it makes the participants use their new skills for a whole year in a progressive manner with small group projects, one on one coaching and a portfolio of demonstrated competencies.


GME Housestaff Council

George Teaford

George Teaford, MD was selected to serve on the GME Housestaff Council.

The Housestaff Council was founded in July 2019 to represent Housestaff with regards to education, training, facilities and resources. The council works closely with the UF office of GME and GME Committee, UF School of Medicine and UF Health to promote the interests of the Housestaff at large. The Council provides input to the GME office on many issues and frequently meets with the Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education. This is the group contacted when institutional issues arise and they guide some of the financial decisions for money used for Housestaff. Council meetings are held once a month and are open to all Housestaff.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellow, Sarah Andrews, MD has been selected as one of four 2019-2020 Virtual American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry / Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Center for Mental Health Services (AACAP/SAMHSA) child and adolescent psychiatry fellows.

Through this fellowship award Dr. Andrews will work on a project related to systems of care and receive mentorship from Gary Blau, PhD, Chief of the Child and Family Branch of the Center for Mental Health Services at SAMHSA, and Christopher Bellocin, MD, Medical Director of the Technical Assistance Network for Children’s Behavioral Health.

She will also be matched with a member of AACAP’s Community-Based Systems of Care (SOC) Committee to learn about AACAP and its role in advancing community mental health interventions for children, adolescents, and their families.
